Thank you for staying in our orbit! We’ve come SO far in two years, and I’m delighted to be in community with you.

SpaceCraft is an expansive third space for the Artists, Misfits, and Creatives, who are eager to express themselves through art-making and playful practice. We are ran by a collective of vibrant and audacious folx, who don’t give a damn about “playing by the rules”.

Knoxville has harmed, drained, and ran off many curious creatives. So, here at SpaceCraft we’re drawing a line in the sand and rewriting the rules to benefit us first.

The most exciting news is the launch of our SpaceCraft Cooperative! We offer two memberships at SpaceCraft: (1) For individual artists seeking a simple, consistent arts community and (2) For grassroots arts organizations who need a dynamic space to launch programming.

We welcomed 6 grassroots arts organizations to our cooperative. As cooperative members, each organization received prorated rates for private access to SpaceCraft, marketing and economic support, advisory governance over the evolution of SpaceCraft, and more!

The intention of the cooperative is to create an independent, circular economy where we all can contribute to each other’s success. It’s a delight to share space with these organizations:

• First Take Co. — Production company and arts incubator

• Knox Draw — Classical Figure drawing and oil painting atelier

• Knox Community Street Dance — Street dance social aid collective

• Tiny Stage Comedy — Stand up comedians

• Stone Fruit Collective — Gallery and exhibition curators

Let me introduce you to a deeeeeeep cut lore about SpaceCraft. Last November, I started a daily newsletter called The Daily Doodle. During this time, I was experiencing unrest on not having anything tangible to share with folx about SpaceCraft. We weren’t a space. We weren’t a membership. We were simple an idea.

So, I decided to start a newsletter to (1) begin manifesting SpaceCraft into the tangible and (2) to challenge myself to a game of creativity. The mission was simple: doodle anything that incorporates SpaceCraft’s logo and pair it with at least 100 words.

The newsletter lasted 101 days. That’s 101 days of staying up late or waking up early to squeeze in a doodle session. Some days creativity flowed, while others were met with hours of delay. Overall, I am beyond grateful for the winter challenge because it taught me persistence and consistency. Two important skills that have led SpaceCraft to where it is today.
